HOT SPRINGS – Hot Springs athletes sizzled past teams much bigger than their own to place well at their second track and field meet of the season. They competed their way onto the podium to show what talent small towns can hold.

The Savage Heat and Lady Savage Heat track and field team traveled to the Jim Johnson Invitational hosted by Alberton and Drummond to compete against other Class C schools as well as some Class B schools.

The invitational hosted 14 schools in total and Hot Springs held their own despite limited numbers, bringing home third place.

Savage Heat athlete Anthony Bryns dominated the sprinting events once again. He took first in both the 100 and 200 meter races. He won the 100 meter with a time of 11.40 seconds and the 200 meter with a time of 23.96 seconds. He also placed in the 400 meter race. Bryns took second place in the 400 meter with a 55.12 second time.

Junior Tanner Hoff did well in the hurdle events. He took second place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.97 seconds and placed third in the 300 meter hurdles with a 44.10 second time.

Hoff also did well in the high jump event. He placed fourth by reaching a height of 5.08 feet. Jack Dolson followed close behind, taking fifth place and reaching a height of 5.06 feet.

Senior Jarod White racked up more points for the Savage Heat by placing in both the long and triple jump. He placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 18.01 feet. He then took first place in the triple jump with a 40.04 foot jump.

The Savage Heat finished in third place behind Charlo and Thompson Falls with a total score of 60 points.

Senior Rosa Dolson was the only Lady Savage Heat athlete to place but she did it with flare and a win in the high jump. She placed first by reaching a height of 4.08 feet, two inches higher than the runner-up.

With that win, the Lady Savage Heat finished in 12th place with ten points total.

The Hot Springs team then traveled to Corvallis for the Gene Hughes Invitational on Saturday, April 5 where they struggled to compete.

Bryns was the only team member to place. He brought in points for the Savage Heat by placing second in the 100 meter dash and first in the 200 meter dash with times of 11.66 seconds and 24.06 seconds respectively.

With those wins, the Savage Heat finished in eighth place out of 16 teams with a total of 18 points.

Neither of the two Lady Savage Heat athletes competed.

Next, the Savage Heat and Lady Savage Heat athletes will host the Dave Tripp Invitational in Hot Springs on April 10, which falls on a Thursday.

With their home track at their feet, the teams hope that home court advantage also applies to the competitive sport of track and field.
