CORVALLIS - The Alberton track teams excelled in multiple categories at this week’s meet.

The April 10 meet was only the third of the season, pitting Alberton up against home team Corvallis, while other local high school teams in the region attended as well.

The Alberton boys finished sixth overall with a score of 31, while the girls finished at the eighth spot with a final score of 18.

Once again, Keir Sanzano and Andrew Lommen competed at a high level for the boys, taking high scores in multiple categories for the second week in a row. In previous meets this season, both boys have similarly tag-teamed the competition taking most of the individual games over other competitors.

Sanzano took fourth with a finishing time of 41.8 seconds in the 300 hurdles, just down from the Jim Johnson Invitational where he placed second with a time of 42.6 seconds.

In the 400 relay, Alberton finished last as a team at the sixth spot with a time of 49.9 seconds.

Both Lommen and Sanzano took top honors in the discus portion as well.

Lommen took first place out of six competitors with a score of 149-2, up from second place last week. Sanzano finished fifth with a final score of 123-1, up from last week where he didn’t place among the top competitors.

Lommen and Sanzano both finished among the top contenders in the shot put competition as well.

Lommen finished second this time with a score of 43-3 1/2, while Sanzano was right behind him in third finishing with 42-2 3/4.

Alberton was the only school to have multiple players finishing in the top ranks in the discus and shot put competitions this week.

The Alberton girls excelled in discus as well, with Delani Hanley finishing first overall with a best score of 122-4 out of six competitors, up from last week’s second place finish at the Jim Johnson Invitational.

Ryan Vicek, the only Alberton girls’ athlete with a top javelin score, finished second in this week’s competition with a 115-2.

Although the Kellogg, Idaho Invitational was held on April 12, Alberton declined to participate as an out-of-state competitor. Next, Alberton Track heads to the Arlee Invitational on April 24. Considering the ample amount of time between Kellogg and Arlee, Alberton has a little bit of time to rest their weary legs.

Arlee last competed at the Dave Tripp Invitational in Hot Springs on April 10, finishing second behind Hot Springs scoring 85.

Even though Arlee’s score of 85 wasn’t enough to take down Hot Springs’ 376, Alberton will need to come out swinging to match Arlee at home.

The track season is running away as Alberton only has four more meets after Arlee before the district meet mid-May at Big Sky High School. Alberton closes out the season on May 31 with the state meet in Great Falls.
