Date for Stand Down announced

TROUT CREEK – After some delays, the Tri-State Veteran’s Stand Down is scheduled to take place on June 28 in Trout Creek.

Originally the stand down was located at the Sanders County Fairgrounds, but has now been moved.

The number of goods will be down by 25-30 percent because the event will now only span one day, but organizer Billy Hill stated there will still be enough for everyone.

“If someone shows up and doesn’t get whatever they want, I’ll make sure they can come to the storage units to get what is needed,” Hill said.

The event will feature $700,000 of resources as well as hot meals and food boxes, which have already been secured.

Currently the stand down is in the organizational phase.

During this phase, logistical work, planning and confirmations are the main brunt of labor. Later temporary structures will be erected to house the supplies.

According to Hill, the Trout Creek Improvement Association and the Trout Creek Park Association has been hard at work to help ensure the success of the event.

The associations donated the water, the power bill and the site location.

“Trout Creek does want this stand down to stay in Trout Creek,” Hill said. “They are doing everything it takes to make the stand down veterans welcome.”

The stand down’s goal is to provide veterans with clothing, supplies and food in an effort to thank them for the time they served their country.

According to Hill, the stand down is currently seeking volunteers.

Every year approximately 150 volunteers donate their time to the event and now is the time to start recruiting.
