Noxon looks forward to busy week

NOXON – The Red Devils traveled a relatively short distance and competed at the Thompson Falls Invitational on Thursday, April 17.
Overall, most of the kids have settled into their individual routines for each of their events.
“We are working on having at least one kid in every event at the meets,” said Head Coach Matt Havens. “They too have bought into this thought of doing four to five events at all meets.”
This will keep the kids busy as they continue to develop their skills.
Noxon had a few placers at the invitational with Michelle Zavoianu taking second place in the 3,200 with 15:10.81.
For the boys, Bradey Wilson seemed to find his name on the stats over and over. Wilson took second place in the 1,600 with a time of 4:55.69, third place in the 400 with 57.48 and fourth place in the 300 hurdles with 45.15.
“Bradey Wilson had three really good track meets the last two weeks. He has been on a roll at these meets,” Coach Havens said. “I am looking forward to the next week’s meets to see how much he will push himself.”
Austin Johnson competed in the 3,200 and took fifth place with a time of 11:40.84.
Overall, the boys finished in sixth place with a score of 20, while the girls finished in last with eight points total.
But for Noxon, the team’s total never truly reflects where they are at in their season, given the low numbers the team has in comparison to some of their other competitors.
“All of the kids have been working really hard and are improving at each meet,” Coach Havens said.
The team will go on to compete at the Arlee Invitational on Thursday, April 24 where they expect to see approximately ten other teams.
The variety will allow Noxon to get a sense of where their competition sits.
“This will allow us to see how the others are doing and what events they are in. I expect the kids to compete to their best no matter the weather or track conditions,” Coach Havens said.
From there, they will travel to Libby on Saturday, April 26 for another invitational.
The kids are working on their conditioning and ironing out the kinks in their routines.
Coach Havens cited a quote that the team relies on – “worry about the little things and the big things will take care of themselves.”
And in due time, the team hopes just that happens.
