Trotters finish on top of competition again

THOMPSON FALLS – The Plains girls track and field team had an impressive day at the Thompson Falls Invitational, finishing in first place, with a team score of 182 points.

The Plains boys took fifth at the invitational behind strong performances by Russell Kujala and Ben Gorham.

The Trotters beat out eight other squads and did so in a convincing fashion with more than 70 points than any of the runners-up.

For Plains, Nicole Rehbein won the 100 meters with a time of 13.32, while finishing in second during the 200 meter race and fourth during the 400.

Hailey Phillips placed first in both the 200 and 400-meter events with a 27.34 and a 62.67 respectively.

Phillips also took first in several other events, including the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.53, the long jump with a distance of 16-6.5 and the triple jump with a final tally of 33-11.

The Trotters had two other athletes take home first in multiple events.

Kimberly Earhart ran a 2:36.67 to win the 800-meter race and a 5:46.08 to finish first in the 1,600 meter event. Earhart also finished in the Javelin event, a competition won by her teammate Carley VonHeeder with a throw of 132-6. VonHeeder also placed fourth in the triple jump.

In the throwing portion of the invitational, Leah Thompson won the discus competition with a distance of 121 and the shot put with a distance of 38-9.5.

The Trotters had several other notable finishes throughout the day as Shannon Diamond placed fifth in the 100 meter sprint, while Demi Horton took second in the 800 and third in the 1,600 meter race.

Additionally, Lily Huenink threw to fourth place in the discus.

In the team events, the Plains girls came close to winning the 400-meter relay, finishing in second with a time of 55.16.

For the boys, Kujala finished first in both the 800 and 1,600 meter competitions with a 2:12.68 and 4:53.61.

Gorham also won multiple events, placing first in the discus and shot put throws. In the discus, Gorham threw a 134-5 and in the shot put he finished with a distance of 48-5.

In the javelin, Wyatt Weinbrenner finished third with a 145-2.

The high jump and triple jump also featured notable finishes by the Horsemen with Tyler Subatch taking fifth in the high jump with 5-2 and Brian Baker placing fifth in the triple with a 37-10.

As a team the Horsemen finished fifth in the arduous 1,600 meter relay.

The team will go on to compete in the Seeley Invitational on Saturday, April 26.
