Letter to the Editor: Mr. Ringmaster

| April 30, 2014 12:49 PM

Editor:

The political circus being staged in Sanders County by the far-right wing of the Republican Party aka the Tea Party Patriots (TPP) continues.

“We the People…” (at least those of us who vote) still have the right to speak up about issues and political practices we choose to reject. Every two years “We the people…” have the right to re-elect or replace the entire U.S Congress and a third of the Senate. Every four years we have an opportunity to change presidents as well, with the caveat that a president is limited to two terms — eight years.

Look closely at the disrespect the sit-down-and-shut-up far-right is conjuring up in our backyard to show their contempt for “We the People…” Far-right wannabe politicians are running as Democrats. I hope the Democrats recognize the disrespect in that and plan on doing something about such a slap in the face.

Then we have Mark French trying to replace Judge Strine who fined him twenty bucks and court costs for thumbing his nose at a Montana State Trooper who cited him for not wearing his seatbelt as required by law. He obviously considers himself above the law, as do many of his supporters, by utilizing our courtroom to stage his circus act. Is that really the kind of person you want to sit as a judge and dispense his form of so-called justice in Sanders County? I hope not!

It is extremely important that you exercise your right to vote in the June primary and again in the November general elections. Doing so really can make a difference. Not doing so can result in the continuing cycle of more and more of our government offices falling under the control of those hand-picked and elected by the far-right, like TPP and the Militia of Montana.

Dick Wells recently wrote a letter to the editors of both the Ledger and the VP in which he addressed me by name. That’s fine. He has a right to do so. Most voters in the county should know by now where Dick stands when it comes to politics. His sympathies are with the far-right. And, let me add, I do not necessarily disagree with him on every issue affecting our county, state and nation.

In his letter Dick respectfully referred to me as “Mr. Ringmaster.” I am proud to be a part of bringing transparency to the political circus playing out in our backyard here under the Big Sky.

Don’t be a part of allowing the far-right political takeover of Sanders County to continue. It is time for “We the People…” to step up and become part of a solution to slow the push of our state and nation closer to anarchy. Vote.
