Superior track has stellar invite

SUPERIOR – The Superior High School boys and girls track teams competed on the road in the Sixth Annual Brian Bachmeier Memorial Track and Field Meet on April 24 in Arlee. 

The boys finished second overall with a 75. 

In the 100-yard dash, Tanner Smith finished fourth at 12.89 seconds. 

The 800-yard dash featured Nathan Lapinski who finished first overall timing in 2:15 seconds.

Lapinski also stole the 3,200, finishing in first place once again with 11:30.76.

Superior wiped-out the discus portion of the meet, as Smith finished second with a 136-6 ½; Jarrod Tippens at third with a 119-0, and Alex Billet fifth at 105-6. 

In shot put, Smith finished third with a 39-0, Billet at fourth throwing for a 38-4 ½ and Tippens at sixth with 38- ½.

Smith finished in second with a distance good for 19- ½ feet.

Tucker Smith finished in first place in the pole vault competition with 10-6, while  Bridger LaPierre and Tanner Smith tied at second place with 10-0. 

The girls finished at sixth with  20 points overall. 

Alberton scored 36 points, Superior had 20 points and St. Regis finished with 17. 

Superior’s Marissa Koke, finished third in the 100-yard dash in 14.30 seconds; and Danielle Ewoniuk came in sixth with 15.70.

Emily Riddle was second in discus at 85-9 ½, and also sixth in shot put with a distance of 27-0.

 Koke was fourth in shot put at 4-4; Ewoniuk competed in pole vault and tied in second with Eula Fullerton of Arlee at 6-6 4, and Medina Monie from Superior finished with 6-6.

“We had some great performances, and some personal bests,” said Head Coach Jamie Toivenen.“It was really bad weather, and we were missing at least three kids because of sickness.”

Superior’s competed at the Top Ten Meet on Tuesday, April 29, but scores were unavailable at the time of press.

The team will go on to compete in the ARM Invitational in Whitefish on Saturday, May.
