Two fires burn in Munson Creek area

| August 2, 2014 5:41 PM

SANDERS COUNTY - Lightning last night ignited two small fires in the Munson Creek area.

Kate Maffie from the Plains DNRC stated one fire was five acres large, while the other one measured half an acre.

Currently a single engine aircraft is dropping fire retardant on the fires to keep the flames from spreading.

Maffie said the terrain where the fires burn is unsafe and rugged. Because of that, no firefighters are working to extinguish the flames on the ground.

The fires are a reminder of the high fire danger in the area. Last week the fire danger was moved to very high after several hot, dry days.

With the forecasts predicting more hot, dry weather the public is urged to use caution when out and about.
