Senior news
Dixon
The weather is making a big (and welcome!) change the past week...and I like it. The
‘squiters aren’t out in the rain, and I don’t have to water as much...and I’m retired so it doesn’t mean I have to get ready for “Back to School”. Plus...the huckleberries, Dixon melons, and Flathead cherries were all available about the same time--what a delight. Much appreciation to the generous Dixon seniors who are sharing the bounty with us for meal times.
We have been so fortunate to have talented, willing local help to fill in when we need someone to substitute as cook or helpers...we enjoyed Diane Engdahl’s stint as cook when Diane Goh took a trip to Alaska recently. And we welcome our new kitchen helper, Anna Griego ,and her family to our community. Some of us long-timers are getting tired and creaky, and it’s great to have new energy to contribute. Our two lovely ladies, Betty Wetzel and Allene Cole, are celebrating their 95th birthdays this month! Always in good humor and witty, we do appreciate their contributions to our community through the years.
The traveling pinochle players meet at Dixon on the 4th Monday, at 7 p.m. (Come for dinner at 6 and stay to play). Last month’s scores were: Joey Hettick was the high scorer; Sharon Guenzler was low scorer; Don Watson had the most pinochles, and the door prize was won by Peg Johnson. You are welcome to come join in on Aug. 24.
The rest of the meals for August will be:
Mon. Aug. 18 Hamburgers
Thurs. Aug. 21 Pork Roast
Mon. Aug. 25 Chicken Enchiladas
Thurs. Aug. 28 Ham Sandwiches
Lunches are served at noon on Thursdays. Dinner at 6 on Monday. All ages are welcome, and you can take dinners home. Homemade bread and desserts are served with veggies and fruit. Best deal in town!
