ST. REGIS – Arts and crafts, baked goods, trinkets and clothes were all on display last weekend as the St. Regis Community Center played host to the annual Christmas Bazaar that saw talented residents displaying their wares for eager customers.

Approximately 20 vendors set up at the community center including St. Regis High School’s own Steven Lowry. Lowry was on hand to try and sell some of his woodwork. He said his interest in woodworking grew out of a class project he participated in at the school.

“There’s a class at our school where it’s all about building projects,” Lowry said. “It’s almost like an entrepreneurial class. You budget your money. It’s a really fun class. I get to make all these wood projects and then try and sell them.”

Another vendor selling homemade products was Ruby Eeter of Superior. She was at the bazaar selling her handmade crocheted items including hats and other wearable art for everyone from adults to children. She said she started crocheting as a way to provide things for her family and it grew from there.

“I’ve been doing this for about ten years,” Eeter said. “I have grandkids and great-grandkids and it all started with them. I started making things for the babies and it really grew on me.”

One of the organizers of the event said turnout for vendors and customers was consistent with previous years. Eileen Wolff said the event was sponsored by the St. Regis Community Council and was all about raising money for a worthy cause.

“We are trying to raise money for a scholarship,” Wolff said. “We give one away every year and we try to get our scholarship money from this bazaar. We might not make it but we always make up the money somehow.”

Wolff said anyone who graduates from the St. Regis High School is qualified for the scholarship and that the award is not based on scholastic merit or achievement but instead on community service.
