THOMPSON FALLS – The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks basketball team got their season off on the right foot last week.

In their home opener the Lady Hawks defeated the Superior Lady Bobcats on the evening of Friday, Dec. 5 at Thompson Falls High School.

Thompson Falls triumphed over Superior by a score of 60-56 after four tightly contested quarters of play.

From start to finish momentum swung back and forth as the two teams battled to start their winter seasons with a victory.

After one quarter of play the Thompson Falls girls held a narrow lead, taking a 14-12 lead into the second quarter.

However, Superior made up the deficit in the second quarter and the two teams went into the half tied up at 27-27.

It was not until mid way through the third quarter that Thompson Falls began to set the pace for the competition, and even then, the home team only held a four-point lead over the visiting Lady Bobcats.

At the start of the fourth quarter Thompson Falls held a 46-42 lead.

Nonetheless, it took almost the entirety of the final eight minutes of play to determine a winner, when the Lady Hawks were able to hold onto their four-point lead, edging Superior by a score of 60-56 to start their season 1-0.

The Lady Hawks got major offensive output from sophomore forward Autrey Hannum and junior forward Shey Hannum. A. Hannum put up 20 points on the night, while S. Hannum added 14 points of her own to drive the Lady Hawks offense to victory.

Superior had a couple of impressive point scorers of their own, with senior guard Jordan Mueller contributing 21 points and junior Marissa Koke adding 14 points in the opening game.

Up next for Thompson Falls will be a road trip to Plains High School, where the Lady Hawks will partake in the Sanders County Invitational, which kicks off on Friday, Dec. 12.
