THOMPSON FALLS – The Bluehawks fought long and hard against their undefeated rivals on Tuesday, January 28, just barely falling behind in the second half.

Thompson Falls faced off the Superior Bobcats in a strong display of effort. The boys fought hard and would not give up as they continued to keep up with their strong opponents.

The game could have went either way as the boys tied at the end of the second half.

To start the game off, the Bobcats sunk multiple baskets but were stopped in their tracks after Bluehawk Tanner Laws put in the first points for Thompson Falls. The team continued to battle throughout the first quarter and ended it with a three-point shot from Laws.

The score sat at 9-12 headed into the second quarter. Superior once again got a jump-start on the quarter but Dalton Hooten put up two three-pointers back to back, allowing the Bluehawks to jump into the lead.

The crowd was on their feet and Trais Hoisington did not let the fans down as he put up another two points. The teams were neck and neck and finished the second quarter with a 20-20 tie.

In the third quarter, Thompson Falls pulled ahead but with less than six minutes in the game, Superior took back the lead from them. Entering into the fourth, the score sat at 30-35.

McKenzie Holt put up the first basket in the fourth, which was matched by one from Superior. Holt put up another basket, followed by two points from Hoisington.

With a score of 38 to 43, the game could have been swayed either way. The Bluehawks fired several points but were unable to make any of the shots. Hope started to fade and the game ended with a score of 40-46.

The Bluehawks gave Superior a run for their money and put up a heck of a fight.

Overall, Hoisington brought in 13 points, while Hooten and Laws each had eight. Holt, Caleb Bates, Joe Lundberg and Greg Wadsworth each contributed to the team’s final score.

As the week continued, the Bluehawks went to play Troy and lost in another close game. The final score was 47-55.

Troy outscored the Bluehawks in the first quarter by 11 points. Although the rest of the quarters were pretty evenly matched, Thompson Falls created too big of a deficit to come out on top even after outscoring Troy in the third and fourth quarters.

Hoisington was once again the lead scorer with 16 points followed by Laws with 11.

The boys will play Plains on Thursday, February 6 and will go play Eureka at home on February 8.
