Lady Panthers show improvement after weekend
ALBERTON – The Lady Panthers ran into problems fighting the defense of Seeley-Swan during their home game on Friday, January 31.
The game began with the team struggling to make any progress. The first quarter ended without Alberton making it on the board. After a hard battle, the Lady Panthers got one point in the second quarter. The first half ended with a score of 39 to 1.
The second half went much better for the girls and they made big progress in improving their defense. The Lady Panther’s were able to keep Seeley-Swan from collecting any points while bringing in more of their own.
The game ended with a final score of 14 to 59.
Senior Ryan Vicek was the highest scorer for the Lady Panthers and was followed closely by Monty Baughman.
The girls had a better game on Saturday, February 1, when they went to Lincoln but still suffered a loss.
Once again, the first half started slow as their offense was pushed down by the Lady Lynx. They were able to bring in approximately half of Lincoln’s points and moved into the second quarter within reach of the opposition with a score of 7 to 15. The second quarter went even better as the girls continued to have a good performance and kept Lincoln from making baskets.
The first half ended with a score of 11 to 21. The second half went even better for the Alberton girls.
Throughout the half, the team was close behind Lincoln. By the end of the third quarter they managed to double their previous points by bringing in another 12. In the final quarter the Lady Panthers were able to bring in two more points than Lincoln, but were still 11 points behind. The game’s final score was 34 to 45.
Vicek made a great showing as the top scorer as she brought in 16 points. Junior Taylor Erdman came in as second best scorer with seven points.
The Lady Panthers will have a game on Friday, February 7, at home against Drummond. The team will play again in Victor on Saturday, February 8.
