SUPERIOR – After their first game last week was cancelled, the Superior Lady Bobcats came back for a 33-point victory in their game against Hot Springs.

Both teams had good defense and made several good steals. The Superior girls were able to get the first points of the game with a three-point shot.

Throughout the first quarter, the teams were both strong and moved across the court quickly. Soon, the Lady Bobcats began to gain a big lead.

Sophomore Danielle Ewoniuk brought in a number of points throughout the quarter with some impressive plays. A flurry of passes moved the ball so it weaved around the Hot Springs players and saw the ball get to Ewoniuk so she could score two points.

The first quarter ended with the Lady Bobcats in the lead with a score of 16 to 2. The second quarter saw a continuation of Superior’s success as the girls pulled further ahead.

The game shot forward and moved at a rapid pace as both team’s defenses were strong enough to keep the ball from their opponent. Junior Jordan Mueller had a number of good plays, including a great save before the ball went out of bounds. She recovered the ball before it left the court and got it back into play, despite being surrounded by Hot Springs players.

Mueller made a number of scores throughout the quarter. Junior Sierra Bruning with seniors Geneva Plakke, Anesa Ruiz and Michele Smith were also high scorers through the rest of the half.

The second quarter ended with a score of 33 to 9.

There was some concern late in the quarter as Bruning slammed hard into an unpadded wall. She fell to the ground in pain as play paused for a moment while she was led off the court. She left the court with a smile and was cleared by medics to continue in the second half.

The third quarter continued the same trends as the Lady Bobcats kept up their strong game. The girls were able to steal the ball on numerous occasions and kept it from the Lady Red Devils while they moved across the court to bring in more points. Hot Springs was able to rally and managed to double their score.

The second half saw a number of free throws where both teams scored several points. Both groups became more aggressive as they both tried to bring in more points before the end.

The third quarter saw especially united plays as all of the players had opportunities to bring in more points. The quarter ended with Superior ahead by approximately 30 points with a score of 47 to 18.

The players and crowd heated up as the fourth quarter progressed. Even with Superior’s lead, shouts exploded through the crowd as one shot bounced out of the net.

In one great play, Smith deflected a Hot Springs pass from over her head. The ball fell into Superior’s possession and was brought to their side of the court. Two attempts were made to get more points from the play, but neither went into the basket.

The game ended with a final score of 57 to 24.

Ewoniuk shined as the top scorer for Superior with a contribution of 12 points. Smith was the second best scorer as she brought in nine points. The game was a team effort as most of the girls made at least one basket.

The girl’s game against Thompson Falls, on Thursday January 30, was cancelled. The game will be rescheduled and was expected to be on either Monday, February 3, or Tuesday, February 4. The make up game will be played in Superior.
