Elda E. (Richard) Greeno
Elda E. (Richard) Greeno was born July 10th, 1935 in Bisbee, North Dakota. She was one of six children born to Elnora “Elly” McLean and Fred Richard. Elda was baptized & confirmed in the Lutheran faith and received her formal education at Egeland, North Dakota.
In the early 1950’s she came to Great Falls to be near a sister. While living in Montana, Elda met her husband-to-be, Dale W. Greeno, a Rudyard area farmer & mechanic. They were married at the E.U.B. Church in Rudyard on January 24th, 1959 and made their home at Rudyard. In 1964 they moved to Havre and began raising their family of two. Their life was shattered in 1966 when their firstborn son, Glenn, died from injuries after being struck by a car.
In the 1980’s the Greeno family sold their north Rudyard farm and bought a place near Whitney, Nebraska. In 1993 they sold this Nebraska farm and moved to Woods Bay near Bigfork to enjoy their retirement years. They lived at Bigfork until 2005, then moved to Hot Springs (Mt.) to be closer to their son, Terry. The Greeno’s were married 50 years when Dale died on August 14th, 2009. Elda remained in their Hot Springs home until her health began to fail. She was recently admitted to the Hot Springs Health & Rehab Center, where she died on the early morning of Friday (January 31st, 2014). She was 78 years old.
The Greeno’s were charter members of the Hi-Line Antique Car Club. Over the years they enjoyed various trips to Las Vegas, Reno, and Spokane.
In her quiet time at home Elda enjoyed watching old movies on television. She was a lifelong animal lover, especially of cats & dogs, and always had several pets as part of her family life. At the time of Elda’s death, she had a loving pet dog named “Maxie” (which was adopted by one of the nurses at the Rehab center).
Elda was preceded in death not only by her husband & son, but also by her parents, 2 brothers (Fred & Rodney Richard) and 1 sister (Ione Michaels).
She is survived by her son, Terry Greeno of Plains; brother, Gordon Richard of Seattle, WA; sister, Faye Dettman of Ellendale, MN; sister-in- law, Brenda Richard of Midlothian, ILL; and numerous nephews & nieces.
Elda was cremated per her wishes. Her ashes will be buried in the Greeno family plot with her husband at the Rudyard Cemetery. The arrangements are being handled by Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester.
A Memorial Service will be 3:00 p.m. Monday (Feb. 17th, 2014) at the Calvary Evangelical Church in Rudyard.
