ST. REGIS – The Lady Tigers continued their winning streak last week with two home games against Two Eagle River and Darby.

The girls came out strong as they ended the first quarter with a solid 15-point lead. The first half ended with a score of 44 to 17.

Success continued for the Lady Tigers in the third quarter. They made twice the baskets as the Lady Eagles. In the final quarter, the girls fell back and were unable to make as many points as the they did in the previous quarters.

The game’s final score was 67 to 29.

Senior Arianna Jones had a great game as the top scorer for St. Regis with 26 points. Freshman Madison Hill came in with the second highest number of points with 17. The victory was a team effort because everyone contributed points.

There was an extremely close game on Saturday, Feb. 8, when St. Regis went up against Tigers from Darby.

The game was intense as the teams kept the scores even. In the first quarter the score constantly tied. First Darby would be ahead, then St. Regis would get the ball. The quarter ended with a tie of 11 to 11.

The second quarter saw St. Regis pull ahead and keep the lead. Freshman Madison Hill was a great shooter in the quarter with most of her shots going in. The team had a number of good highlights during the quarter.

During one play, junior Gabby Moeller stole the ball when it was passed between Darby players. She quickly brought it back to the St. Regis end and got it to Hill. Hill shot the ball and brought in the team’s final points of the half. The first half ended with a score of 23 to 19.

The St. Regis girls came back from the break with a new intensity as they began to build their lead. With a series of big points early in the quarter, the team was quick to pull ahead by 10 points. Their defense was also better as Darby could not push past the ladies.

The third quarter ended with a healthy score of 34 to 24 St. Regis.

The last quarter was the most intense. Hill was the target of Darby’s frustrations as she was rewarded a number of free throws due to her opponent’s unsportsmanlike conduct. This resulted in her bringing in a number of points from free throws.

Hill was by far the top scorer of the game. She brought in a game best of 21 points. Moeller put up the second highest total with 11 points.

In the end, the final score was 46 to 42.

This week the Lady Tigers will play two away games. On Tuesday, Feb. 11, the girls will travel to Hot Springs for a game against the Lady Savage Heat. Then, on Thursday, Feb. 13, they will play their final game of the season against their county rivals in Superior. After the game against the Lady Bobcats, the girls will go to the District Tournament in Ronan.
