Plains School Board decides on contractor

PLAINS – In a short meeting the Plains School Board wrapped up 50 years of work in a total of approximately seven minutes.

According to Plains Superintendent Thom Chisholm the meeting was monumental. The school board selected a contractor bid for the elementary school addition – a project that has been in the works for half a century. The total combined bid was for almost one million, nine hundred thousand dollars and went to Western Interstate Construction.

This total included a $133,700 contingency just in case any disasters arose during the construction process.

The construction company employees many people from around the area and Chairman Ron Warren said those people would be able to work out of their homes during this project.

Another item on the agenda was the school election process. Through a unanimous vote the school board decided to conduct a regular ballot instead of a mail-in ballot.

Chisholm recommended this option because it was more convenient and was also less expensive than the mail-in option.

“It’s pretty much a no brainer,” said Warren.
