Bluehawks beat out Noxon
THOMPSON FALLS – The Bluehawks met with a strong force on Friday as they went head to head with Bigfork. The boys were able to keep up until late in the competition, however, in the end it wasn’t enough.
During the second quarter, Bigfork led the team but after a series of free throws from Thompson Falls, the boys were able to tie the score 20-20.
As the game continued, Bigfork made a barrage of points that brought the score to 22-29.
The Bluehawks kicked off the third quarter on the right foot as Dalton Hooten put up a basket. Bigfork shot back with four points but Tanner Laws was able to stop them with another two points. As the game continued, Bigfork stretched their lead with every play.
Although they continued to advance, Laws and Caleb Bates were able to stop the Vikings progress as they both put up three-pointers, helping to close the gap.
The quarter ended with a score of 32-43. As the fourth quarter got underway, Thompson Falls gave it their all. In a foul heavy period, their opponents had the opportunity to put up plenty of free throws to seal the deal.
Even after putting up 12 points, Bigfork outscored the Bluehawks and took the game from them. The final score was 44-61.
Laws brought in the most points with 15, followed by Trais Hoisington with 14. Caleb Bates put up six points, Dylan Vaught put up five, while Hooten and Greg Wadsworth each put in two points.
The Bluehawks then went on to face one of their rivals. As they traveled to the neighboring town of Noxon, the wheels turned as Thompson Falls took the win from the Red Devils.
Early on, the Bluehawks outscored Noxon – a trend that would continue until the fourth quarter.
In the first quarter, Thompson Falls put up 15 points to Noxon’s 11 points. The Bluehawks continued to advance and outscored the team by 11 in the second quarter. In the third, Thompson Falls brought in 20 points to Noxon’s six. The wheels of change started spinning in the fourth quarter but by that time Noxon was too far behind. The Red Devils scored 11 points to The Bluehawks nine points.
Hoisington took the lead with 23 points, while Dylan Vaught was in second with 12 points. Hooten put up 10 points, while the remainder of the points were split between Laws, Joe Lundberg, Tyler Riffle, Ryan Hamby and McKenzie Holt.
As for Noxon, Oliver Grupenhoff put up 11 points to lead his team.
Thompson Falls currently sits in fifth place with a 1-7 standing. In order to play in the district tournament, the team will need to beat Plains during the play-in game on Tuesday. Plains sits in fourth place with a 2-6 record. The game will be hosted in Plains at 7 p.m. on Feb. 18.
