Lady Savage Heat look forward to fresh start

HOT SPRINGS – The Lady Savage Heat hosted the St. Regis Lady Tigers Tuesday night. It was also senior night for Rosa Dolson, Amanda Woods, Alex Green, Laurel and Meara Schmiedbauer. The girls received flowers, stuffed animals and applause for their four years of achievement.
In the game against St. Regis, the Lady Savage Heat ended the first quarter with twice as many points as the Lady Tigers. In the second quarter, however, things were flipped and St. Regis scored twice as many points as Hot Springs. This kept the game close and the score going into halftime was 19-20.
The Lady Savage Heat continued the back and forth pattern in the third quarter and earned eight points compared to the four points of their opponents. Hot Springs was in the lead going into the fourth quarter but lost it when St. Regis made 19 points. The final score was 32-43.
Head Coach Robert Kearney was very pleased with how the girls performed in the first three quarters.
“We played very well but it got away from us in the fourth quarter,” Coach Kearney said. “The first three quarters were a reflection of what we’ve been working towards all year. We’ve made progress and will do our best to keep moving forward.”
Meara led her team with 17 total points. Josey Carr, Laurel and Green each contributed five points.
The Lady Savage Heat traveled to Charlo for their second game of the week and their final game of the regular season.
At the end of the first quarter, Hot Springs trailed behind the Lady Vikings by nine points. They were outscored by eight points in the second quarter and the score going into halftime was 8-25. The Lady Savage Heat had a nice third quarter with 11 points to Charlo’s six but it was not enough to win. The final score was 25-46.
Meara earned eight points and Laurel added seven more to the final tally.
This week the Lady Savage Heat will begin tournament play. Coach Kearney said it is an exciting time and he is looking forward to the fresh start.
“I feel we can compete against any team in our district if we can put it all together,” Coach Kearney said. “Our success will depend largely on our ability to keep turnovers to a minimum, take good shots and stay out of foul trouble.”
