Savage Heat sear St. Regis
HOT SPRINGS – The Savage Heat had their two final games of the regular season last week. They hosted the St. Regis Tigers Tuesday night which also happened to be Senior Night. Jarod White and Jimmy Holland received balloons and praise from the crowd for their high school achievements.
The Savage Heat got off to a good start and gained a seven point lead over the Tigers at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Hot Springs boys earned an additional 15 points compared to the nine points St. Regis procured. The Savage Heat was in a comfortable spot with a halftime score of 33-20.
Their position only improved in the third quarter. Hot Springs scored an impressive 27 points in the third quarter while St. Regis struggled to keep up with six points. The Savage Heat kept the fire going through the fourth quarter and earned twice as many points as the Tigers. Hot Springs won and the final score was 74-33.
White led his team with the most points at 16 and Tanner Hoff followed with ten. Trevor Paro and Jimmy Holland each put up nine points.
On Friday, the Savage Heat traveled to Charlo to play their second game of the week and their final game before the District Tournament. The Vikings proved to be tough opponents.
At the end of the first quarter, the Savage Heat trailed behind the Vikings by six points. They then made adjustments and fought back in the second quarter. The Hot Springs boys ended up out-shooting Charlo and the score was tight at 30-31 going into halftime.
The Savage Heat fought hard to stay on Charlo’s heels. The Vikings earned a single point more than Hot Springs in the third quarter so the Savage Heat was down by two points going into the fourth quarter. The Hot Springs boys fell behind as the Charlo team took off and the final score was 55-66.
Sam Hoff earned the most points for his team at 16 and Paro followed up with 12.
The Savage Heat will travel to Ronan on Thursday, Feb. 20 for the start of the District Tournament.
