Thompson Falls girls put up a fight
THOMPSON FALLS – The Lady Hawks saw a mixture of success and defeat last week in their games against Bigfork and Noxon.
As the ladies competed with Bigfork on Friday, their opponents kicked the match off by scoring a basket. Shey Hannum put up all of the ladies points in the first and helped bring the score to 3-16.
In the second quarter, Bigfork once again kicked off the quarter but Thompson Falls quickly fired back. Logan Beckman put up a basket helping to stretch their score. As the game continued, Beckman assisted Madison Fitchett in a three-pointer. Despite their efforts to keep up, Thompson Falls began to slip and the second quarter ended with a score of 8-36.
The girls refused to give up and put up another five points in the third quarter. Hannum put up a basket while Angela Padden later shot in a beautiful three point shot.
Entering the fourth quarter, the team sat at 13-54. Thompson Falls would only make one point in the fourth quarter, bringing a final score of 14-62.
The girls did not let the loss get their spirits down. They traveled to Noxon on Friday and found a shot at redemption. The ladies brought home a 67-28 victory.
Thompson Falls started off strong and put up 18 points in both of the first quarters. Noxon was unable to keep up although they had a strong effort in the second quarter where they were able to get 12 points on the scoreboard. As the game continued, Thompson Falls furthered their lead and sealed their victory.
Autrey Hannum was the lead scorer with 14 points, followed closely by Padden who had 12 points. S. Hannum brought in 10 points, while both Haley Wilson and Logan Beckman put up eight. The remainder of the points were split between Madi Wheeler, Sam Johnson, Fitchett, Gillian Nelson and Adrienne Corning.
The girls have already secured a spot in districts as they currently sit in third place with a 4-4 record. They will go on to compete against Bigfork once again on Thursday, Feb. 20 in the semifinals. Their game will be at 5 p.m. in Bigfork.
