Plains girls finish out the regular season undefeated in their division

PLAINS – The Trotters spent their final week of the regular season traveling. They went to play the Whitefish Lady Bulldogs on Thursday night and the Frenchtown Lady Broncs on Saturday night.

Both teams started a little slow in the Plains vs. Whitefish game and remained in single digits after the first quarter. The Trotters got warmed up and broke it open in the second quarter. They scored 16 points while the Lady Bulldogs struggled to keep up with five points. The score going into halftime was 24-10.

The Trotters continued to sprint ahead in the third quarter and out-shot Whitefish by 23 points. The Plains girls were in a comfortable spot going into the fourth quarter with the score at 49-12. Things slowed down again in the fourth quarter with both teams scoring a combined eight points but it was enough to ensure victory for the Trotters. The final score was 54-15.

Kayla Holmes led the Trotters with 16 points and nine rebounds. Hailey Phillips followed suit with 12 points and four assists. Carley VonHeeder added 11 points.

On Saturday, the Trotters played a close game against the Frenchtown Lady Broncs. At the end of the first quarter, the Plains girls trailed behind by three points. The Trotters bounced back in the second quarter out-scoring Frenchtown by four points which kept it close. The board read 23-22 going into halftime.

By the end of the third quarter, the Lady Broncs had pulled ahead of the Trotters once again and led by eight points going into the fourth quarter. The Trotters hit double digits in the last quarter but it was not enough to catch Frenchtown. They lost with a final score of 40-50.

Phillips led the Trotters with 15 points that night and Holmes contributed 12 points.

This week the Trotters will begin District Tournament play. Many believe the undefeated conference girls have a good shot at victory.
