THOMPSON FALLS – The Lady Hawks showed a strong performance last week as they added two more victories to their total.

The girls played with heart and came together as a team to show they are becoming one cohesive unit as the season progresses.

Their first game against Troy on Friday saw a final score of 55 to 24. The Lady Hawks played a tough game and kept the Trojans to 11 points throughout the first three quarters. However as fourth quarter came around Troy fought back and put some more points on the scoreboard. Their effort was not enough as the Lady Hawks overpowered the team, stealing the win from them.

Logan Beckman led with 17 points, Shey Hannum had 12 points, Autrey Hannum brought in 10 points, Erica Sorlie had eight points, Angela Padden added six to the team’s total and Haley Wilson put up two more points.

“Overall, I felt like we are making progress and that’s what I’m most happy about,” said Head Coach Courtney Burky.

She was especially happy that the girls had the opportunity to build their confidence more – something she stated was incredibly important.

“It wasn’t a perfect game by any means but we are working together every week,” Coach Burky said.

The ladies shot well with a 48 percent average.

Coach Burky said the team is still trying to figure out their dynamic, however, they are coming together more with each and every game.

She credited both S. Hannum and Padden for their game as well as Beckman.

As the ladies progressed into Saturday night’s game, the team was ready to take another win. The ladies played Superior in what seemed to be a back and forth game.

In the end, the Lady Hawks pulled out a win, 44 to 38.

Wrapping up the second quarter, the game was close with Thompson Falls leading by four.

The third quarter got off to a quick start with a Lady Hawk sinking a basket.

As Superior began to close in the gap, the ladies tied 29-29 with a little over six minutes left.

The remainder of the quarter was a battle for the most points – a battle the Lady Hawks took by one.

As fourth quarter began, a barrage of points continued throughout the game - the ladies continuously stretching their lead.

The last minute of the game was full of action as the game sat at a score of 42-36 with a little under a minute. After a series of foul shots were made from both teams, the score was brought up to 44-38, where it stayed – earning the girls a win.

Sorlie was the lead scorer of the game with 14 points, followed by Beckman with 12. S. Hannum scored seven, Padden had five and both A. Hannum and Haley Wilson brought in two apiece.

“It was exciting. It was good for us,” Coach Burky said.

Beckman fouled out in the top of the fourth quarter and the other ladies stepped up to the plate, covering the absence of the strong player.

“My other kids did an excellent job of staying under control and stepping it up,” she said.

Not only was Sorlie the lead scorer but Coach Burky also credited her for her rebounds.

“I am really happy with my starting five,” Coach Burky said.

The girls are going on to play Plains on Thursday in a home game. Although the coach said everyone gets along well, the team is excited for the showdown.

“I know all the girls get along and all the coaches get along so its one of those things that everyone wants to get out there and have a competitive game. Both teams want to play well,” Coach Burky said.

She said the game will come down to who has the least amount of turnovers and the most points on the board.

Next on the list will be Eureka, a team Thompson Falls does not know much about. After speaking to other coaches, Burky said the game might be a bit of a challenge. But like always, the girls are up for the contest and hope to come out on top.
