NOXON – The Lady Red Devils took to the court twice last week, gaining experience with each game they played.

The first game was Friday against St. Regis with a final score of 21 to 59.

Kristin Webley and Jenna Langdon led the team with six points apiece. Katie Chandler brought in four points, Zoey Osborne had three points and Kamber Torti had two.

Head Coach Ashleigh Singbeil said the girls had a fierce start to the game but were unable to keep the pace up.

“We came out really, really strong in the first quarter and really competed with them. (The girls) got sluggish after that,” Coach Singbeil said.

As the points kept coming from St. Regis, Coach Singbeil said the girls started to get down.

“I just think that honestly, a lot of it is they don’t know how to play with each other yet. They’re still developing that relationship,” she said.

The girls continue to practice and become closer as a team – something that should pay off in the future.

Both Webley and Langdon were credited for a strong game. Coach Singbeil said the girls were the most consistent on the team this year and are stepping up to complete their roles.

After the St. Regis game, the ladies biggest goal was to work on their defense and cohesiveness.

In their second game of the week against Charlo, the ladies lost 10 to 61.

Coach Singbeil said Charlo is a very fundamentally sound team – something the Lady Red Devils are still working on.

“They’re a good example of where we want to be at as far as fundamentals and how key they are,” Coach Singbeil said.

Webley and Langdon were the only scorers in the game, once again earning top honors.

Two girls fouled out early on in the game, something Coach Singbeil credited to lazy defense.

“They are not doing the things we practice. They are branching out and doing their own thing,” she said.

The team plans to focus on that in practice.

The Lady Red Devils competed against Arlee on Tuesday. Although scores were unavailable at the time of press, Coach Singbeil said it would be a long day.

The girls left the school around 11 a.m. and were scheduled to return at midnight.

“I think it will probably be a little hard because we haven’t had a lot of away games and they don’t know how the system works,” she said.

The long days make for a harder time with less practice time for the ladies. They have one chance for a pregame practice and because it happens a day before the game, Coach Singbeil has to take it easy on the girls.

After Arlee, the girls will face off Hot Springs on Friday.

“We should match up with them a lot better. They are a team we can definitely play with,” Coach Singbeil said.

Although she stated Hot Springs had more experienced, she believes the game will be a good one.
