ALBERTON – With a storm bearing down on the area, the Alberton girls faced a big defeat in their Friday home game against Victor.

The game was hard fought and had many moments where it was close. The game’s final score was 26-51.

According to Head Coach Hannah Anderson, the game started strong for the Lady Panthers. The team played hard and was evenly matched with the Lady Pirates. At the end of the first quarter, the girls were only four points behind with a score of 7-11.

“Alberton played very aggressively this game,” said Anderson. “The girls worked well together.”

The teams kept up with each other early in the game and both sides were able to steal the ball from the other fairly easily. Both sides moved across the court quickly and had strong defensive lines, which led to a number of turnovers.

However, the second quarter saw the Lady Pirates come back hard and begin to pull ahead. The Lady Panthers fought hard and almost had a score at the buzzer. The final score of the first half was 10-32.

In the third quarter, the girls came back stronger and were able to score more points than Victor. As the quarter continued, Alberton began to pull back and regain lost ground. The end of the quarter saw a score of 20-38.

Sophomore Deveyn Dutt had a strong game and led the team with six points with senior Haley Marvin just behind her with five. Junior Taylor Erdman and sophomore Mia Tocci each scores four points. The remainder of the points were split among the rest of the team.

Anderson said all the girls got time on the court and contributed to the game. She said everyone got some good rebounds and assists.

In the days before their next game, the team has worked on rebounds. The coach felt the team had improved since the start of the season and was excited to see the team advance even more.

“I’m very excited to see the improvements in the team,” said Anderson. “I look forward to seeing them continue.”

Due to bad weather and dangerous wind conditions, the game against Drummond on Saturday, January 11, was cancelled. A make up game had not been scheduled at the time of press.

The Lady Panther’s next game will be Thursday, January 16 at Valley Christian. There will also be a home game on Saturday, January 18, against the Darby Tigers at 3 p.m.

Anderson was excited for the game against Valley Christian and said it was their first time facing them. She gave no information about how the team was and had no predictions of the game’s outcome.
