ALBERTON – The Alberton Panthers were dealt a loss Friday, January 10, in their game against the Victor Pirates.

According to Head Coach Dan Moe, the game started close. The Panthers were only six points behind at the end of the first quarter. The team had some good blocks and shots, which helped keep the score close.

“We had some opportunities to get through the first quarter even,” said Moe.

In the second quarter, Victor put on pressure and got a huge lead for a score of 11-39 at the half. Moe said this jump was what put the game away as a victory to the Pirates.

The Panthers moved well across the court and were able to get to their end quickly. However, a number of pass overs made it difficult for the team to score points.

Most of the team was able to contribute to the game. However, some players performed especially well.

Senior Andrew Lommen was the top scorer for the Panthers and ranked high in many statistics. The second highest scorer for the team, senior David Stafford, was one of the best players of the game and ranked the highest in many areas.

Due to bad weather and dangerous wind conditions through the area, the game against Drummond on Saturday, January 11, was cancelled. Information on a make up game was not available at the time of press.

According to Moe, the team has gotten better in many ways. He said there has been better ball movement by everyone and he has seen improvement in many other skills. However, he did not give specifics skills.

In the days before the next games, Moe plans to work with the boys to improve each day. While additional specifics were not given, the Panthers will practice on improvements in all areas.

One of the team’s best advantages is how strong they play. Work on this strength could help to improve the team’s other abilities.

“Eventually, those attributes will pay off,” said Moe.

The Panther’s next game will be away on Thursday, January 16, against Valley Christian. On Saturday, January 18, the team will have a home game against the Darby Tigers.
