PARADISE – A rock slide that occurred on River Road East has been completely removed from the roadway, allowing vehicles to once again utilize the full road.

The rock slide occurred on January 3 and thousands of pounds of rock completely blocked the road off.

Although there were no access issues, some residents had to take the long route to loop to their residence.

On Wednesday, January 8 River Road East was open to one lane. The road was closed to the general public, however, residential traffic was allowed through.

Some hazardous rock still had to be removed from the cliff face by dynamite. The unstable rock was approximately 70 feet above the road and District One Road Foreman Roger Mallery said dynamite was the safest means of removal.

The rest of the rock was estimated to be removed shortly after.

The remainder of the removal was at a much lower distance of 10 feet and did not pose any serious safety issues.

The rock was slowly chipped away until there was no longer a problem.

Once all the work was complete, the road was fully opened to the public again.
