Lady Hawks fly to win

THOMPSON FALLS – The Lady Hawks barely edged out the competition in their game against Libby in a close match up that landed the ladies in overtime. The competition heated up and Thompson Falls was able to take the win from right under their opponents nose. The final score landed at 42-41.

During the Thursday night game, the ladies stayed ahead of their competition for the first three quarters but Libby remained on their toes and attempted to take the lead away from the Lady Hawks at the very end. The teams tied 35-35 and were forced into overtime. In the heated battle, Libby scored six points with Thompson Falls edging out their opponents with seven points.

The ladies had a 40 percent free throw average throughout the game, something that helped them add points to their total and take the win.

In all, Shey Hannum brought in the most points with 15 in all. Logan Beckman followed closely behind with 12 and Angela Padden brought in six. Erica Sorlie added four points to the team’s total while Madison Fitchett had three. Gillian Nelson helped add another two points to the Lady Hawk’s total.

Coming off their exciting win, the ladies then traveled to Bigfork where their skills were not enough for the Vals.

Thompson Falls lost the game 38-47.

Overall, the ladies had a very strong night with their free throws, with a 68 percent average. The Lady Hawks only had five missed opportunities when it came to their free throws.

During the game, the ladies fell behind their competition early on. The first quarter ended with Thompson Falls only two points behind. However, the Vals lead continued to stretch despite the increased number of points put up by the Lady Hawks.

Beckman was the lead scorer of the night bringing in 23 points in all. Padden helped add six points, while Sorlie put up five. Hannum added three free throws and Haley Wilson put up one more to add to the team’s total.

The girls will have an away game on Thursday against Superior and will then be on their home court for the game against Troy on Saturday.
