NOXON – The Red Devils gave it their all in two games this week against Superior and Eureka. Although both games resulted in a loss, the boys did not skimp out on team effort.

According to Head Coach Mike Tessier, the boys experienced an off weekend.

“We caught some kind of epidemic this weekend. We couldn’t shoot to save our lives,” Coach Tessier said. “It happened in both games.”

He said despite their best efforts, the team had trouble sinking the ball into the net.

Both teams matched up with Noxon well and Coach Tessier said the games could have easily been theirs.

Currently Superior is undefeated. During summer league, the two teams clashed in games where Noxon lost to the Bobcats by a minimal amount of points.

“We knew we could play with them and we did,” Coach Tessier said. “They just started pulling away.”

Overall, the Red Devils worked together as a team and impressed their coach.

“It was a really good effort by our whole team. Everyone really put it all out there,” Coach Tessier said.

During their game against Eureka on Saturday, the boys yet again were unable to line up their shots. Although Noxon was up in the first quarter, Eureka took the lead later on and held onto it until the end.

The final score of the game was 57 to 34.

“Eureka is a good team. They played a really good game,” Coach Tessier said.

With a team as young as Noxon’s, he believes the kids may have doubted themselves in the second quarter.

“When they miss a few shots in a row and then all of a sudden Eureka pulls away, they start to doubt themselves,” Coach Tessier said.

The team continues to improve on a weekly basis and in the end that’s all that matters to Coach Tessier.

“As long as we are getting better every week, that’s the goal,” Coach Tessier said. “Our guys never give up and we play with a lot of heart, which is a good thing to have.”

The team will compete against Two Eagle River at home on Thursday and move on to Troy on Saturday.
