Applicants sought for Mineral County RAC

SUPERIOR –Mineral County and Forest Service officials are soliciting applications from individuals to fill several positions on the Mineral County Resource Advisory Committee (RAC). The committee is responsible for making recommendations on projects that provide benefit to Forest Service land within Mineral County. RAC positions are unpaid but members can be reimbursed for travel. Funding and administration for Mineral County RAC projects are provided under the authority of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act.

Those seeking a position on the RAC should have an interest in resource management and a strong desire to work collaboratively within a diverse group of interests. Applicants are not required to be Mineral County Residents but they must be residents of the state of Montana.

The RAC consists of 15 members and three alternates, one alternate for each category. At this time, the RAC is looking to fill three vacancies and a replacement member in Category A, four vacancies and a replacement member in Category B and three vacancies and a replacement member in Category C. Members will serve four year terms. To be eligible, a prospective RAC applicant must fall into one of the following categories:

Category A

- Organized Labor or Non-Timber Forest Product Harvester

- Developed Outdoor Recreation, Off-Highway Vehicle Users, or commercial Recreation Activities

- Energy and Mineral Development, or Commercial or Recreational Fishing Group

- Commercial Timber Industry

- Federal Grazing Permit or Other Land Use Permit Holder, or Representative of Non-Industrial Private forest land Owners within the Area

Category B

- Nationally recognized environmental organizations

- Regionally or locally recognized environmental organizations

- Dispersed recreation activities

- Archaeological and historical interests

- Nationally or regionally recognized wild horse or burro groups, wildlife or hunting organizations or watershed organizations

Category C

- State-elected office holders or their designee

- County or local elected office holders

- American Indian tribal representatives from tribes within or adjacent to RAC area

- School officials or teachers

- Citizens representing the affected public at large
