NOXON – The Lady Red Devils faced off against two teams that were on an equal playing field to them last week.

As the ladies entered into their first game against Two Eagle River, the ladies put up eight points in the first quarter, just seven points behind their competition.

As the game continued, the ladies kept bringing in points but it was not enough to take a win. The final score landed at 39-54.

According to Head Coach Ashleigh Singbeil, winning isn’t everything. The important thing is the team is learning to play together and is finding their way.

“We had our really good moments and that’s what we are going off of right now,” Coach Singbeil explained.

With Jenna Langdon deemed ineligible to play, the team had to step up to fill some big shoes.

Zoey Osborne rose to the occasion bringing in 16 points for her team. Osborne was the lead scorer of the night. Kamber Torti was also credited for stepping up and playing her roll.

“We took care of the ball fairly decent for us and we boxed out really well,” Coach Singbeil said.

Right now the focus is bringing all the little things they learn into play.

The ladies then continued on to play Troy. Noxon ended the first quarter ahead by two points with a score of 7-5. As the second quarter came underway, Troy outscored the girls and continued the trend into the night.

Overall, Torti had five points, Brodmerkle had four and both Jenson and Osborne brought in two. The final score of the game was 13-31.

“We played one solid quarter,” Coach Singbeil said. “We’re working on putting a solid game together.”

The team struggled with their free throws throughout and are working feverishly to improve their percentage.

Despite the loss, Singbeil still saw improvement in her team and that’s what is important.

The team went on to play St. Regis on Tuesday although scores were unavailable at the time of press.

The game was supposed to be a tough one. According to Coach Singbeil St. Regis is a strong team. Their second game of the week against Charlo on February 1 was also going to be a challenge.

“They are very competitive for us to play,” Coach Singbeil said.

She knows her team will grow to be better as time goes on. Their enemy right now is their youth.

“They are going to be a great team in a couple of years. They are just young,” Coach Singbeil said. “We take what we can and go from there. It will get better.”
