The Trotters were victorious both games this weekend

PLAINS – The Trotters met Bigfork on their home court Thursday night.

They came out strong in their game against Bigfork Thursday night. In the first few minutes of the game they led 10-0.

With one minute left in the first quarter Sami Kinzie gained possession of the ball and ran down the court passing to Hailey Phillips. Phillips made the shot and the score was 12-3 going into the second quarter.

The second quarter began with an aggressive scuffle for the ball and the Trotters won. Phillips had a nice steal from Bigfork and passed to Kimberly Earhart who scored making it 14-3 with six minutes left in the first half.

The Trotters created a solid line of defense and Bigfork could not fight through. Leah Thompson made a shot leaving the score 21-3 with one minute and sixteen seconds left in the first half. The second quarter ended the same way it began—with a scuffle for the ball. The score was 23-6.

Bigfork scored early in the third quarter but Kinzie responded by driving the ball to the hole. Kayla Holmes scored shortly after making it 27-8 with less than six minutes in the third quarter. Then Kinzie had a nice steal but was fouled with only seconds left in the quarter. Both of her free-throws were perfect and the score was 35-17 going into the final quarter.

Kinzie continued to play aggressive defense in the fourth quarter. Diana Woodward, Thompson and Kinzie each got fouled and made their free-throws without a problem. The final score was 53-24 and the Trotters triumphed. Head Coach Richard Griffin was happy with how the girls played.

“They played with a lot of heart. They took what we worked on in practice and brought it to the game,” Coach Griffin said. “I am very pleased with how they did.”

He emphasized the victory was the result of the all-around team effort, but he did mention a couple of players that did particularly well.

“Hailey did a great job of being a threat. Sami did a good job of running the ball down the court and of giving us some enthusiasm,” Coach Griffin said. “Leah Thompson had a great game for us and really helped set the tone.”

The key to the Trotter’s success was confidence, something Coach Griffin has been stressing.

“They had confidence tonight,” he said. “If you make a mistake you need to just keep going and learn to roll with the punches.”

The Trotters’ newfound confidence helped them defeat Troy Saturday night with a final score of 47-26

Next week the Trotters will face off against Deer Lodge at home and Eureka away.
