Tigers plan to bounce back after two defeats

ST. REGIS – The St. Regis Tigers took two losses last week as they went up against Charlo and Lincoln.

The Tigers began the week on Thursday, January 23, with a home game against Charlo. The game began slow for the team. With a strong defense from the Vikings, the guys were unable to sink many baskets. The first quarter ended with a score of 5 to 22.

The second quarter saw a stronger game by St. Regis with a slightly better defense. It was still a hard game and Charlo’s defense kept the Tigers from advancing. The home team made a number of impressive plays.

Eighth grader Trent Haston made a shot, which bounced off the rim and was caught by another St. Regis player. Senior Keenan Clute gave the ball a boost to the net. Clute was also on the receiving end of a long pass across three quarters of the court from senior Dallas Lewis.

Junior Gibson Lowry also made an impressive jump shot. The first half ended with a score of 13 to 40.

The third quarter was intense but went in Charlo’s favor. The Vikings defense rose back to the strength it had in the first quarter.

The ball moved back and forth at lightning speed.

The Tigers had a strong defense and got nine points. The quarter ended with a score of 22 to 68.

The final quarter saw the team’s best play of the day. Eighth grader Brandon Managhan scored a shot with ease. After a short struggle midcourt, Managhan sent the ball to Lowry, who made a shot and got nothing but net.

As the clock neared zero, activity on the court reached a crescendo for both teams. The St. Regis boys were able to keep Charlo from scoring while taking several points of their own. The game’s final score was 28 to 74.

Managhan was able to score the most points for the Tigers with 11 points. Eighth grader Dakota Wickham was the second top scorer with five points.

The Tigers played again on Saturday, January 25. When the team went to Lincoln, they had a much closer game with a final score of 60 to 66.

Both teams had a strong offense and the scores were close. While the Lynx were able to take in enough points in the second and third quarters to take victory, St. Regis had a powerful lead at the beginning and end of the game.

The fourth quarter saw the best game for St. Regis. The boys had a strong defense and were able to score 21 points to Lincoln’s 14.

Wickham continued to shine and brought St. Regis 18 points. Managhan brought in 13 points of his own as the second highest scorer.

The Tigers played a home game on Tuesday, January 28, against Noxon. Information on the outcome of the game was unavailable at the time of press. St. Regis will also play at home against Arlee on Friday, January 31, at 5:30.
