Noxon celebrates Fourth of July with a bang

| July 11, 2014 2:04 PM

NOXON - The Noxon Fourth of July celebration was a lot of fun thanks to the many volunteers.

There were seven runner/walkers who got up early to participate in the three-mile fun run along the Clark Fork River.  Runners ranged from one year old to over 70, with four participants on the far side of 70.

All finishers received t-shirts and winners in each age group received commemorative mugs.

Overall winners were Logan Naegeli with a time of 18:13 and Kari-Lynn Kelly 22:22.  Other winners were: 10 and under - Katelynn Menzghor and Brady Menzghor, 11-20 - Kali Murray and Logan Naegeli, 21-30 - Mariah Naegeli and Bart Haflich, 31-40 - Kari-Lynn Kelly and Audey Murray, 41-50 - Sarah Naegeli and Brent Culp, and 51  and over - Kate Cheshire and Richard Rose.

The V.F.W. served up breakfast at the senior center to hungry visitors.

The “good ole days” was this year’s parade theme.

Participants’ perspectives on what those “days” were made the parade very entertaining.  Special recognition went to the Conjara Attackers and the Gilligan Island floats and Madi Koonce walking her friend Joan Kelly’s Shetland pony raising awareness of breast cancer with a sign reading “Fight like a Girl” on one side of the pony.

Geri Orso was “Senior of the Year” as voted by Noxon senior citizens.

Food booths, games, cake walk, horseshoe tournament, turtle races, live music by Lady and the Outlaw, chicken poop bingo, 50/50, kayak races, ham dinner, and individual fireworks kept visitors entertained throughout the day and evening.

50/50 winners were Johnson Hardware, $200 and David Stafford $90.

Chicken poop bingo winners were Lee Rasor $250, Sharon Wilde $250, Judy Elmquist $50 and Evan Davis $50.

Kayak winners were Nick Weber, Justin Shamon, and David Kielian.

Horseshoe winners were Josh Buckner and Elijah Haye.
