I recently returned from a short-but-sweet visit to my home town of Juneau, Alaska, where I attended a very sentimental, touching community dedication of a memorial to the Japanese Americans who were removed from their homes in Juneau, and interned in western camps during WWII. My dear friend since 5th grade and her family were part of several citizens who had come back for the event. It was a moving experience and expression of a community’s support during a bleak period in our history. May it never be repeated in our country. Being in the lush rain forest in SE Alaska (it poured rain the whole time!) was a stark contrast to my summer of 90+ degrees in NW Montana, Why can’t we even out the sun/rain?

Can you believe all the choices for small-town community fun lately? With all the breakfasts, dinners, fly-ins, parades, fairs, markets and entertainment all over....no excuse to sit around and be lonely. Call someone and hitch a ride or invite a friend to join in. And remember, those Dixon Melons are basking in the hot sun, just getting riper.

Come cool off in our air-conditioned senior center, every Monday at 6 p.m. and noon on Thursdays. Everyone is welcome, you needn’t be a senior.

Thurs. July 24 Tuna salad; 3 bean-salad

Mon. July 28 Sweet & Sour Chicken with rice

Thurs. July 31 Polish sausage; potato salad

Home-made bread, dessert, veggies and fruit are always served with the main dish.

Cook Diane gets pretty creative with some of her dishes...come enjoy!

The traveling Bingo players meet on the last Monday of each month at 6 p.m. You’re welcome to join the game.
