Library highlights summer reading activities

| June 4, 2014 1:25 PM

MINERAL COUNTY - There’s the World Series,  the Super Bowl and then the Summer Reading program at Mineral County Public Library.

Maybe it’s not quite the headline of major sporting events or even Disneyland, but the library makes up a good part of summer fun for local kids.

Fizz, Boom, Read is this year’s summer reading theme featuring science in all cool aspects.

Kids can experience anything from dinosaurs to volcanoes to robots, and anywhere else a young imagination can go.

The program will begin with a Tuesday, June 17 puppet show at noon at Eva Horning Park.

On Tuesday, June 24 at noon at Eva Horning, there will be a chance for fun that will make Tuesdays a look forward to day.

These programs will include reading with buddies, and independent grade-school-level reading.

Weekly drawings will be held with prizes.  And, best of all, kids can keep up with reading over summer break and be ready for when it is time to go back to school in the fall.

The summer of fun ends with a picnic and pool party on July 29.

So dive in for the whole summer, and have some fun.

Even though the summer reading program isn’t the World Series, the Super Bowl or Disneyland, it’s a lot closer and features a county library staff eager to put books into young hands and minds.

The library always offers a half-hour story time for little ones Mondays and Thursdays all year long from 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Besides all the fun summer activities, kids can also attend the library with their parents and browse through the vast selection the Mineral County Public Library has to offer.

Any Mineral County resident is eligible to use the library services. Those interested in using the library can stop in and receive assistance on how to obtain a card for checking out materials.

The staff is always ready for any questions you may have. Come visit us at the circulation desk during our normal business hours, or visit our website for a quick answer for library specific questions.

Stay sharp and use your public library for all your learning and leisurely needs.
