Superior deaths ruled murder-suicide by officers

SUPERIOR - The two suspicious deaths discovered in a home near Superior on Wednesday, May 28 were deemed a murder-suicide by investigators.

Emma Lane, 87, and her husband, John, 85, were both found dead inside a rural county residence at 3383 Southside Drive, said a press release.

“The investigation has revealed that Emma died from a single gunshot wound and John died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” said the press release distributed by the Montana Department of Justice. 

On Wednesday at 11:50 a.m., the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the residence after they were notified of a deceased person who was found in the home. Emma’s body was discovered by a neighbor who came to check on the residence at the request of an out-of-state relative, said the release. 

Law enforcement officers arrived on scene at 12:15 p.m. and found a second deceased person upon entrance of the residence. 

Agents with the Montana Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation are continuing to assist MCSO with the investigation.
