CNSC to benefit from test drives

PLAINS – The Cancer Network of Sanders County will be hard at work on Saturday, June 7, attempting to get as many participants as possible into a new Ford to raise money for their organization.

The second annual CNSC Drive 4 UR Community event will take place at Rehbein Ford in Plains and will provide the organization with the chance to reap in $6,000, if participants are willing.

CNSC President Kathy Miller said it was easy to take part in. All participants have to do is show up at Rehbein Ford between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., fill out a short survey and take a new Ford for a test drive. For each person who drives a new vehicle, $20 will be awarded to CNSC.

“What we’d like to do is have 300 people show up so we receive the full $6,000,” Miller said. “It already is a big fundraiser for us, but that would be exceptional for us.”

Last year there were 106 participants who brought in a check for $2,120. Although Miller was happy with the donation, it left almost $4,000 of available funds untouched.

The point of the event is to raise money for a good cause and is ultimately not focused on selling cars.

“If you are thinking that the gang at Rehbein Ford is going to be twisting arms to sell you a new car, put your mind at rest on that issue,” Miller said. “They certainly will entertain inquiries about a purchase, but you will have to initiate that conversation. No hard sell efforts will be going on.”

All the money raised stays within Sanders County and helps those who are fighting the fight against cancer. CNSC is a non-profit organization that lends support to Sanders County residents with their cancer treatments. According to their website, funds go towards travel expenses, prostheses, medications, wigs or other expenses not covered by insurance.

Miller said it was important for people to participate because you simply never know when you may need a helping hand.

“You never know when you are going to have to write a letter to us and say I’m in trouble, I need a little financial help,” Miller explained. “Cancer touches everyone in the community.”

Right now, CNSC offers a $600 gift annually to help with expenses. That gift amount depends on the amount of money that the organization brings in. If more funds were to come in, the gift could potentially be increased; and that’s the ultimate goal.

“With continued success at our myriad events, we will be able to raise that amount,” Miller said. “The more money we bring in, the more we give.”

Limitations do apply, as only one $20 donation will be awarded per household.

For those interested, the test drive will begin at Rehbein Ford and the participant will turn right and proceed down to Burnham Lane. From there, the driver will travel to Lower Lynch Road, take another quick right and head back towards Rehbein.

The quick drive not only gives an opportunity to drive a nice, new vehicle, but it allows those who participate to give back to a cause much bigger than any one person.
