| June 12, 2014 2:04 PM

Superior – Roger Lindgren, of Superior, completed his journey this side of Heaven on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.

He was born in Colville, WA, on April 30, 1936, to Anton and Bertha Lindgren, immigrants from Sweden. He grew up hunting, farming, and working in the timber. At age 12 his mother took him to visit her large family in Sweden.

Upon graduating from Colville High School in 1954, Roger joined the Coast Guard. In 1962 he graduated from the School of Forestry School in Missoula at what was then Montana State University. During his freshman year, he met Marcella Evans, they were married June 1962.

Roger began his career with the Forest Service on the Colville National Forest, and then transferred to the Flathead and Lolo National Forests. As a resource assistant, one of his favorite assignments combined his joy of camping, and riding horses, laying out trails and campsites in the Jewel Basin.

A resident of Mineral County since 1975, Roger retired in 1994 and devoted his energy to helping his community and church. He served on the hospital board, and as a Sunday school teacher, elder, and treasurer for the Superior Assembly of God Church. He and Marcella also enjoyed travel to Europe, Asia, and around the US.

Roger instilled in his family a strong Christian faith and commitment to service. His daughters fondly remember his humorous stories and teaching them to drive his 1974 Volvo. He valued helping others and preferred a humorous anecdote to a lecture. Roger did not become discouraged living with Multiple System Atrophy the last six years of his life and stayed on his feet until the final weeks. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend and is dearly missed.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Viola Van Sickle. Survivors include his wife, Marcella; daughters, Lynn Lindgren-Schreuder (Maarten) of Portland, Oregon, and Adina McCloy (Daniel) of Missoula; and grandchildren, Emily, Otillia, Aidan, Charlotta, and Micah.

A visitation and burial was held in April. A memorial service celebrating Roger’s life will be held Saturday, June 21, 3pm, at the Assembly of God Church in Superior, Montana. A reception to follow.

Memorials may be made in Roger’s honor to the Mineral County WeCare of MT, P.O. Box 682, Superior, MT 59872.
