Candidates finish filing for election

SANDERS COUNTY – As the filing period ended on Monday, March 10, the county now knows who is up for election.

Four incumbents remain unopposed with Tony Cox running for a six year term as commissioner of district 3, Nichol Scribner for county clerk and recorder, Tom Rummel for sheriff and Robert L. Zimmerman for county attorney.

The position for county coroner has been the most heated race with three contestants. Incumbent Kathy Harris from Thompson Falls is up against Wayne Egbert from Plains and Becky Kelly McDonald from Plains.

The race for county treasurer and superintendent of the schools is between incumbent Carol P. Turk and Jenny Williams, both of Thompson Falls.

Mark French filed late to enter into the race for justice of the peace against Donald M. Strine.

On the state level, four representatives have filed for HD-13. Democrat Weylin Achatz from Trout Creek, Republican Bob Brown from Thompson Falls, Democrat Gerald Joseph Cuvillier from Trout Creek and Republican Katy Walton from Thompson Falls are in the race.

As for HD-14, Democrat Terry Caldwell from Paradise, Republican Nick Schwaderer from Superior and Democrat Lloyd Wilkins from Hot Springs are up for election.

James Manley and Mark Russell, both of Polson, are running for the 20th District Court Judge, department 1.

Further down the line, Lawrence Vandyke and Mike Wheat have filed for Supreme Court Judge #2, while W. David Herbert and Jim Rice filed for Supreme Court Judge #1.

This year’s U.S. representative candidates include Elsie Arntzen, John Driscoll, Mike Fellows, John Lewis, Matt Rosendale, Corey Stapleton, Drew Turiano and Ryan Zinke.

As for U.S. Senator, Dirk S. Adams, John Bohlinger, Susan Cundiff, Steve Daines, Champ Edmunds, Roger Roots and John Walsh have filed.

2014 special district candidates include Dillion Lee of Heron who filed for the Heron Rural Fire District; John Bras and John Swope for Hot Springs Rural Fire District; Tony Mascaro and Harley G. Allder for Noxon Rural Fire District; David F. Colyer and John J. Holland Jr. for Plains/Paradise Rural Fire District; Clarence Curry for Thompson Falls Rural Fire District; Dave Anderson and Barbara Wooden for Trout Creek Rural Fire District; Raymond Flesch and John Bras for Eastern Sanders County Hospital District; Dillion Lee for Noxon Heron Public Hospital District; Matthew R. Diehl and Lando R. Bras for Eastern Sanders County Conservation District; and Dillion Lee and William D. Naegeli for Green Mountain Soil and Conservation District.

The only special district with no candidates is Dixon Rural Fire District.

As for 2014 Precinct Committeeperson Candidates, Democrat David R. Lyman, Democrat Deborah S. Lyman, Republican George Wallace and Beth A. Wallace have filed for Precinct 1. All are from Heron.

For Precinct 2, Republicans Gary G. Green, Abraham Weaver Jr. and Kristine R. Green have filed. Democrats Gerald Joseph Cuvillier and Beverly Cuvillier as well as Republicans Bob Brown, Edward Schramm and Carol L. Schramm have filed for Precinct 3.

Democrats Raymond J. Schaefer and Judith Schaefer filed for Precinct 4 as did Republicans Jerry C. Shively, Dick Wells, Brenda L. Shively and Nancy Mehaffie.

Precinct 5 has four republican parties running with Lynn Harris, Kathy Harris, Paul C. Fielder and Jennifer Fielder.

William Raf Viniard and Kim Lavon Robinson, both republicans, filed for Precinct 6, while Republicans Mark T. French, Daniel W. Bates and Kathleen C. French filed for Precinct 7.

Precinct 8 has four republican candidates, with Kevin J. Byrns, Randal A. Woods, Jean Nemeth and Rachel Hulce.

No one filed for Precinct 9.

The primary election will take place June 3.
