ST. REGIS – At their meeting on Monday, March 10, the St. Regis Resort Board voted to offer a grant of $10,000 to groups working on projects, which would benefit the St. Regis Resort District.

According to Jessica Connolly, accountant of the resort district, the district mainly encompasses the downtown area of St. Regis. She said the area went as far north as Two Rivers Road. The boundary also included the school to the west, the golf course to the south and the Little River Motel to the east. The main restriction on the grant is projects funded by it have to benefit the resort district community in some way.

“The funds would have to be spent in our district or benefit people in our district,” Connolly said.

Otherwise there are very few restrictions on what the grant money can be used for. Beyond needing to benefit the district, the money is given out based on the board’s review of the application.

Connolly said the money primarily goes to non-profit organizations. In the past, the resort board has given money to the St. Regis Visitor Information Center for operating costs and the Trestle Creek Golf Course for repairs and maintenance to their facilities. They have also given money to the 4H club, the St. Regis Rural Fire Department and the St. Regis Senior Citizen Center.

Connolly estimated there were usually three or four applicants each year. The grant is given out annually and is always offered in March to be issued in July.

Applications for the grant need to be submitted and postmarked by April 30. The applications will be reviewed at the resort board’s May meeting, approved in June and the checks will be signed at the meeting on Monday, July 14. According to Connolly, any type of project can be applied for.

“I really can’t think of any grants,” Connolly said. “There are not a whole lot of restrictions on it at all.”

Anyone interested in getting an application should contact Connolly at 649-7206. The completed documents must be mailed to St. Regis Resort District, PO Box 151, St. Regis, MT 59866-0151.
