Thompson Falls track places among other competitors
THOMPSON FALLS – In the Western Montana Top 10 meet, the Hannum sisters shined, as they were Thompson Falls only placers of the day.
The meet took place on Tuesday, April 29. The girls flew high and tied at second place in the high jump competition. Both Autrey and Shey Hannum had a length of 5-3. Autrey went on to place sixth place in the triple jump competition as well with a length of 34-1.
As the week progressed, the team moved on to the Missoula County Stadium where they participated in a meet. Neither the boys or the girls placed team wise, but both sides of the spectrum saw success.
In the 800, Lady Hawk Bridgett Thor took third place with 2:42.23, while Asia Curran took third place in the 1,600 with 6:15.38 and Phoebe O’Neill took sixth with a time of 7:29.28.
Curran continued on to take second in the 3,200 with 14:53.59.
In the hurdles, two Lady Hawks placed. Autrey Hannum took third place, while Angela Padden took fifth place.
In the 400 relay, the girls finished fifth place with 55.10 and the 1,600 relay team also took fifth with 4:32.77.
In the discus competition, Logan Beckman took second place with a length of 91-11. Beckman went on to take third place in the javelin competition with 104-9 and also took fourth in the shot put, while Shasta Wilson took fifth place with 102-4.
In the high jump, Autrey took first with a height of 5-3, followed closely by her sister Shey who took third with 4-9. Autrey continued on to take third in the long jump, while Shey finished third in the triple jump. Padden took fifth in the pole vault with 8-0.
As for the boys, Dylan Vaught had a strong meet. Vaught took second place in the 200 with 22.69 and also finished third place in the 100 with 11.44.
Kyle Kennick took second in the 1,600, right behind Tanner Laws who secured first place with a time of 4:50.92. Logan Naegeli brought in fourth place with a time of 5:00.06 and Will VanHuss took sixth. Kennick also took fourth in the 800 meter.
Laws was able to secure third place in the 3,200, followed by Naegeli in fourth and VanHuss in sixth.
In the 300 hurdles, Garrett Strine finished in third place with 44.29, while Josh Wulfekuhle took sixth with 46.44.
The boys relay team took first place with 44.52, while another one of their teams took fifth at 47.21.
As for the 1,600 relay, the boys took fourth place with 3:50.39.
The javelin had a strong performance from the Bluehawks. Kade Van Elsyck took fourth place with 139-0, Kolt Shaw took fifth with 138-1 and Dietrich House took 128-1.
House also took third place in the shot put competition with 43-5.
In the high jump, Trais Hoisington took fourth place with 5-7 and Joe Lundberg finished in sixth with 5-1.
Vaught got a few more victories in the jumping competitions, bringing in third place in the long jump and second place in the triple jump, followed by Jake Gascon who finished in fourth place.
Gascon also took sixth in the pole vault competition with a height of 11-0.
The teams will go on to compete at the Sanders County Meet on May 8 in Plains where they will face all the teams in the county. With a competitive spirit alive and well, competition is expected to be fierce.
