Alberton High School faces Seeley-Swan in track season finale
ALBERTON – The Alberton Track teams headed to the Seeley-Swan Invitational on May 10 at the Missoula County Stadium, in what was the last scheduled meet before districts.
The girl’s squad finished in thirteenth place with a team score of 16. The boy’s team fared a bit better finishing seventh on the day with a score of 37.5.
Delani Hanley led the girls in discus finishing just below the coveted first place spot at second with a 111-1. Hanley finished fourth in shot put with a length of 30-4.
In javelin, Ryan Vicek finished fourth at 105-4.
The boys placed several players in each of the competition categories.
Keir Sanzano took fifth in the 100-yard dash timing in at 11.78 seconds. Sanzano also excelled in the 300-hurdle race finishing seconds from taking second place, but settled for a solid third place finish at 43.32 seconds.
Alberton placed two of its stars in the discus competition that featured six other competitors. Andrew Lommen blew out the competition securing the first place spot with a near-flawless length of 146-1. Sanzano was at fourth again at 121-6.
In shot put, the Alberton duo of Lommen and Sanzano once again stole the show securing two places in the standings.
Lommen placed second and finished with a 47-3 ¾, while Sanzano was right on his heels at third with a 43-6 ¾.
The boys finished with a little high jumping, as Sanzano tied at fifth with Deer Lake’s Logan Thomas. Both boys received a 5-8.
Alberton competed on a day where the clouds dripped rain throughout, although they didn’t seem to be affected. The sun continues to hide on track meet days making it that much more challenging for those that have to compete.
Even though both girls and boys team didn’t finish in first place, they secured the usual nods in the middle of the placements, which has been the norm all season.
Sanzano, Lommen, Hanley and Vicek are all seniors and will be graduating in the next coming weeks. They consistently led the state and Class C in areas like javelin, discus and shot put.
At Kellogg, Idaho in mid-April, Lommen, Vicek and Hanley all set new school records. On that day, Lommen threw discus for 149-2, Vicek stuck the javelin 115-2 and Hanley tossed the discus 122-4.
Now that the regular season is officially in the books, Alberton Track can concentrate on districts, divisional and state meets. Big Sky will do the honors of hosting the districts and divisional in Missoula, while Great Falls will host the big state meet at the end of May.
