Hot Springs heads to Missoula

MISSOULA – The boys and girls of the Hot Springs Savage Heat Track and Field team participated in their second Seeley-Swan Meet of the season over the weekend.

On Saturday May 10, the Hot Springs boys followed up their strong performance at the Sanders County Meet with a fifth place finish and a team score of 48 points. 

The girls of Hot Springs tied for fifteenth place with Conrad, each squad compiling eight cumulative points. 

After winning both relay events at the Sanders County meet, the Savage Heat did it again at the Seeley-Swan meet, where the group of Jarod White, Nate Gray, Anthony Byrns and Tanner Hoff, crossed the finish line first in the 1,600-meter relay, with a time of 3:37.90. The boys also placed in the 400-meter version, finishing in sixth with a team time of 47.22.

The Savage Heat boys also enjoyed strong individual performances throughout the day. 

In the short distance events, Byrns posted some impressive times to get Hot Springs some early points. 

Byrns placed second in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 52.84. He also posted a fourth place finish in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 23.97, and a sixth place finish in the 100-meter sprint, with a final time of 11.80.

Hoff did well in the hurdles competition, taking second in the longer 300-meter hurdles, posting a time of 41.91, while finishing in third in the short 110-meter hurdles, notching a 16.16.

Hot Springs finished near the top in the triple jump as well, with White, tallying a 41-7, placing him in second place in the event on the day. 

Gray led the Savage Heat throwers with 142-4 effort in the javelin event, giving him fifth place in the competition. 

For the Hot Springs girls, Rosa Dolson led the charge with a second place finish in the high jump competition. Dolson’s jump of 4-10 finished just shy of the first place mark. 

The second Seeley-Swan meet concludes the regular season for the Savage Heat of Hot Springs and they will head to the District 14C meet next week. 

The District Meet at Polson is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 15 at 9 a.m.
