Trotters head into postseason
MISSOULA – The Trotters saw their win streak snapped in a doubleheader against Loyola Sacred Heart.
However, after losing the first game of the double dip, the Plains High School softball team rallied and managed to end the season on a high note, with a win against Loyola Sacred Heart on Tuesday, May 6.
The home team took game one of the doubleheader thanks to some uncharacteristic defensive troubles from the Plains Trotters.
Committing six errors in game one, Plains provided the window for Loyola to climb through and earn an 11-8 victory over the visiting Trotters.
The Breakers of Loyola were able to get to Plains pitcher Tia Thompson, something very few teams have been able to do this year.
Nonetheless, the Trotters did not go down without a fight, providing an impressive amount of offense to keep the game close.
Plains compiled 11 hits through seven innings, led by Jena Peterson who went 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and three runs driven in during the early game of the day.
Alex Greene also had a big day at the plate going 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs of her own, leaving the Trotters positive despite their defeat in game one.
Thompson helped herself out on the offensive side of the dish, going 1 for 4, while driving a run in. Sami Kinzie contributed to the offense as well, collecting two hits in five at bats, and plating a run.
The nightcap went a little differently with Loyola Sacred Heart facing defensive woes this time around and Plains earning the 6-1 victory to end their season with 13 wins and 5 losses, and send them into the postseason in style.
Thompson, quickly put the first game behind her, striking out four in the late game, scattering six hits throughout the contest and only allowing one run to cross the plate for Loyola.
Thompson’s battery mate, Alex Greene, provided the offense lifting Plains to win number 13 on the year.
Though the Trotters plated two unearned runs thanks to the three errors committed by the Loyola squad, Greene accounted for all the other runs.
The catcher tripled and drove in four Trotters to give her team a comfortable lead in the final game of the season, going 2 for 3 on the night.
Danika Whitcomb, Jena Peterson, Thompson and Josey Carr also collected hits to power the Trotters to the win.
With the regular season concluded the Trotters will now prepare for the postseason.
