THOMPSON FALLS – In a feat the team has tried to accomplish all season, the Thompson Falls Bluehawks golf team tied with Loyola Sacred Heart at first place for the Class B Division 3 golf tournament.

The tournament was held at Eagle Bend Golf Course on Tuesday where both schools totaled 341 strokes apiece. The teams tied 16 points ahead of the third placer who was Deer Lodge.

The Bluehawks secured their spot at the State B tournament, which will be held at Fairmont Hot Springs on May 20-21.

Thompson Falls own Caleb Bates finished as the top individual with 75 strokes, followed by Tommy Tirell and Jared Geer of Loyola. Bluehawk Dalton Hooten took fourth place overall with 79 strokes.

Jaden Graveley of Thompson Falls also placed with 83 strokes and Gary Wadsworth rounded out the pack with 90 strokes.

The team has been trying to catch up with Loyola all season and with their recent success, the hope is they will continue to improve and overtake Loyola in the tournament that matters most. If this is accomplished, Thompson Falls will make history.

The top four teams and the top 15 individuals move on to the state competition where they will be put to the test mentally.

The Bluehawks will have to give it their all to go against the toughest competition in the state, all golfers who worked very hard to get to this point.

Thompson Falls doesn’t plan on letting that thwart their game. If their focus is there, hopes are they will come back from state with some hardware.
