ALBERTON - Only one Alberton track player won an event at divisionals, although many others were top placers.

Senior Delani Hanley took first place in the discus event one week after she broke a district record with a distance of 118-11. She was in first this week too, and not too far behind in last week’s scoring, throwing for a distance of 120-9.

The girls competitors had 19 points which was good for a ninth place team finish.

The boys had similar luck reaching the eighth spot with 24 points.

In the 4 x 100 relay, the team of Rebecca Pluth, Ryan Vicek, Mia Balich and Mckayla Tomlinson finished in 57.9 seconds  and thirteenth place.

Vicek had a strong finish in the javelin event, placing second with a distance of 121-1, just shy of Alex Bohlman of Seeley-Swan who finished in first with 123-6.

Tomlinson also competed in javelin finishing fourteenth with 87-3.

In the triple jump, Vicek placed twelfth with a jumping height of 31.

For the guys, Keir Sanzano ran the 100-meter dash in 11.76 seconds which was good for a respectable fifth place finish in the final event.

In the preliminary event, Sanzano finished third in the 100-meter dash in 11.72 seconds.

In the 400-meter finals, Sanzano finished in fourth with a time of 52.03 seconds.

Sanzano finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.31 seconds.

The team of Griffin Pluth , Cody Callison, Zak Kurien and Justen Munsch competed in the boys 4 x 100 meter relay. The team finished in sixteenth timing in at 50.77 seconds.

Andrew Lommen just missed the coveted first place spot in shot put, but was able to earn a third place finish. Lommen threw a distance of 47-4.

Sanzano also competed in the event taking sixth place for a throwing distance of 42-10 to round out the event.

Lommen was back to tear up the discus event, although he missed first place he was able to get a hold of the second spot throwing 147-4.

Sanzano was there to back up in the same event, finishing in fifth throwing for 130-1.

It has been a magical season for Alberton, and this year’s seniors will be sorely missed. The younger students will have to step-up in order to follow their predecessors.

Leading seniors Hanley, Lommen, Vicek and Sanzano now look ahead to May 30 when they will compete in their final meet as Alberton athletes. The whole team will head to Great Falls with them to go out with a bang.

Afterwards they will be able to rest and relax leading up to their new start in the fall.
