SUPERIOR - After a stellar season, the Superior/Alberton Mountain Cats ended their spring season during the two-day state invitational in Missoula.

The Mountain Cats were able to qualify three players for state. Hailie Bahm went as a singles player, while Heather Kelly and Sophia Williams played doubles.

Despite not winning any championships, all helped the Superior-Alberton team have a competitive season.

The weather wasn’t a factor in the competition even though there was a possibility for a washout.

The Mountain Cats were right up there with Loyola, who came into the season as the conference favorites.

On the first day of state, Superior/Alberton scored four points and finished eighth.

Bahm defeated Kayla Billette from St. Ignatius in the first day of singles competition 7-5, 6-1.

However, Bahm was defeated in the second round to Kylie Hadley of Baker 6-0, 6-3.

Bahm’s tennis career also ended with the Mountain Cats as she has already graduated from Alberton High School.

The team of Kelly and Williams were also defeated early by Alex Craft and Duana Gobert 6-1, 6-1.

Although much of the team will return next season, Head Coach Rick Berreth will be looking to fill the holes from some missing spots that existed in some of the matches this season.

Regardless of who fills those spots, the team will likely be ready to come out swinging.
