Lady Red Devils battle at district competition

ST. REGIS – The Noxon Lady Red Devils traveled to Mineral County last weekend to take part in the District 10-C volleyball tournament.

The Lady Red Devils entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed, following a successful regular season.

Noxon began tournament competition in St. Regis against the Two Eagle River Lady Eagles last Friday.

The Lady Red Devils defeated Two Eagle River in three consecutive sets to move onto the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

In the opening round of District 10-C competition Noxon won the three sets of their match by scores of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-13.

Nicky Zavoiance led Noxon’s offensive attack with 13 kills in the team’s first competition of the day.

Senior McKenna Krueger had a big day at the net for the Lady Red Devils earning four blocks for her team.

Krueger also aided the defensive effort in other areas of the court, adding two digs to the team’s victorious effort.

Bethany Ulrich also had a stand out performance in the match compiling 14 assists for Noxon.

In the opening round match the team combined for 28 kills, seven blocks, four digs and 21 assists.

Noxon’s win over Two Eagle River set up the Lady Red Devils with a quarterfinal matchup against the tournament’s host team, the St. Regis Lady Tigers.

The no. 3 seeded Lady Tigers pulled off the upset over Noxon, taking the match in three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-11.

In the quarterfinal match Krueger who earned 13 kills for the team led the Lady Red Devil’s offense.

Krueger was once again impactful at the net where she knocked down four blocks.

Noxon also was aided on defense by the efforts of senior Sara Webley who notched two digs in the match.

Webley also added 19 assists in the quarterfinal match-up.

The team combined for 53 kills, seven blocks, two digs and 31 assists in their second match of last weekend’s tournament.

On the second day of tournament competition Noxon defeated Arlee in four sets to keep their season alive and set up a meeting with Charlo.

Noxon dropped the first set of their second day match against Arlee but rebounded to sweep the final three sets of the match by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-10.

Krueger turned in a big performance for the Lady Red Devils with 19 kills and six blocks in the four sets against Arlee.

Asiah Jensen of Noxon had a strong defensive performance with 14 digs for the Lady Red Devils.

Jensen added an ace in the match for Noxon.

Webley was also a factor in the win over Arlee with 32 assists in the match.

Noxon combined for 50 kills, seven blocks, 47 digs, 46 assists and one ace against Arlee.

In their second match of the second day of the tournament Noxon was defeated by Charlo in four sets.

After Charlo won the opening set of the match 25-18, the Lady Red Devils rebounded and won the second set 25-20.

The final two sets of the match were quite close but Charlo was able to edge out Noxon with 25-22 wins in both sets.

Zavoianu led the Lady Red Devil offensive attack against Charlo with 24 kills in the match’s four sets.

Zavoianu also added nine digs for Noxon.

Krueger played well at the net and totalled five blocks for the match.

Webley earned two aces from the serving line and put up a 33 assist performance.

Noxon combined for 75 kills, six blocks, 36 digs, 51 assists and two aces.

The Lady Red Devils ended the District 10-C tournament in third place and will faced off against Philipsburg on Monday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m.

The winner of this match-up will earn a spot in the divisional tournament next week in Butte.
