ST. REGIS – Despite beating Charlo earlier in the district tournament, the St. Regis Lady Tigers were not able to finish them off in their second match for the chance to go into the divisional tournament as district champions.

The team still managed to come away with a very respectable second place trophy and are poised to cruise into the divisional tournament with the confidence that comes from a dominant performance against stiff competition.

Ashley and Courtney Cheesman both had two aces apiece while Gabby Moeller added some offense of her own in the form of four kills.

Courtney Cheesman also had one block while Patience Jones got it done on defense with 15 digs. Madison Hill also had a strong performance on defense with 14 digs of her own.

Head coach Jennifer Pruitt said her team was ready to play aggressively and were able to execute effectively on the court.

“They came out ready to go,” Pruitt said. “They played hard. We played great against Noxon on Friday and then came out and played great again against Charlo. We’ve never beaten Charlo. They were all over the floor.”

Pruitt said the Lady Tigers were able to beat several teams they had previously struggled against.

She said the difference, in her mind, was the team’s flexibility in adapting to their opponent’s offense.

“We were able to adjust our offense and defense,” Pruitt said. “We worked on coverage and getting the ball to our targets and we were able to adjust. We had a lot of extra practice and it worked out. They came to play.”

Pruitt said, going into the divisional tournament this weekend, the team would again be working on their defense.

She said if the team can improve their blocking and coverage behind their blockers, they may have a shot against their first opponent in the tournament which are the defending state class C champions.
